25X1 1. The air field is used by an Aeroclub school for the training of pilots
and ground personnel.
2. The duration of the course is 3 months. The first course began in Octo-
ber 1952; at the present time the 6th course is in progress.
3. The pilots, basic training is given in Thuringia 'under Soviet control.
4. The school at Puetnitz has been commanded by Major Berinov since
January 1953. Major Helmers, a former German Air Force officer and
prisoner of war in the Soviet Union, is in charge of pilot training.
About 50 Soviet officer instructors and about 250 German instructors
attend the pilot course, while the ground personnel course is attended
by about 250 Russians and 350 Germans,
5, The pilot students are between 20 and 35 years old, while the ground
force trainees range from 25 to 35 years.
6. Two squadrons, with 12 MIG-15 aircraft each, are based on the airfield.
In addition to that, there are a number of training planes.
