I. Location
The Danuvia Machine Tool Factory, Angol u. 1O-20,Budapest XIV, is exclusively
engaged in the manufacturing of Degt arev submachine guns and. spare parts
of the same. Until the spring of 1951, this plant was knowir to produce KD-type
(Kiraly-Danuvia) submachine guns..
It is known that the barrels of the Degtyarev submachine guns have a caliber
of 1.62 mm. Actually, these barrels are drilled an extra 1/10 of a mm. at
the Danuvia plant. This extra space is filled with chromium-plated nickel,
which triples the life of the barrel.
Production
b. The present monthly production amounts to about 2,700 submachine guns. In Febru
T:ry 1954sthere u me 310 rejects. This is due to the poor quality of the T W.-.
materials, carelessness, lack of skill, and. passive resistance of the wbrkerso
Fifty per cent of the manufactured items are shipped to the Soviet Union. In the
shipping room the su .guns are packed 35 to the case and are turned. over,
in accordance with a production list, to a special Hungarian-Soviet commission--
the so-called Delivery Commission..
Raw Materials
The allocation of all the necessary raw materials is carried. out by the Ministry
of Heavy Industry, that is,. through the plants of Didsgyyr, Magyar Ac(l, and.
R,kosi MMtyfs. The electric power is supplied. by the city of Budapest.
Security
a. The plant is guarded. by about 45 policemen; In addition to these there is also
a group of about 40 men of the AVH; the latter glard primarily the entrances
and the exits.

b. Each worker has a green identity card, issued. by the plant, plus a small
metallic badge on which the number of the identity card. appears. No
outsider is permitted inside the plant.

At present, about 2,300 workers and. white collar workers are employed in this plant
which is operating on three shifts.

Cellar: here are located. the kitchen and the mess halls for the workers:
lst Floor: main entrance,with AVE guard post; paper storage, various depots,
exhibit-, administration of the national labor force (sic).
2nd. Floor: offices of the general manager and. of the assistant general manager,
office f the Soviet controller, secretariat, office of chief engineer,',-
tool planning office.
3rd.FFloor: plant council, bookkeeping office, main cb,shier's office, personnel
department, statistical office.
4th Floor: Planning and drawing office, bookkeeping office, sick benefits office,
sales office, accounting,purchasing department.
The entire building covers anr.:area approximately 100 by 30 M.
2. Four-story building for shops, covering an area of approximately 2,00 by 35 in,
Cellar: rifle range, storeroom for raw materials, depots, locker rooms,
baths.
1stFloor: 2nd. entrance with AVH guard post, infirmary, packing room,
shipping room,. storerooms.
2nd: records office, paymaster's office, office of the section manager,
bookkeeping.
The machine shop has the following equipment:
31. milling machines, each with a bench approximately 35 by 60 m.
26 lathes; height of centers varies from 1,000 to 2,500 m.
10 special lathes for constructing the breechblocks of submachine. guns;
10 flat grinding machines;....
6 work tables with measuring instruments;
6 grinding machines with centers;.
18 profile grinding machines.
On this same fluor, there are also: storeroom for raw materials needed by this
section; storeroom for semi-finished. parts; tool storeroom.
3rd Floor: gection for tools and measuring instruments:
10 lathes, with height of centers from 500 to 1,500 mm.
8 grinding machines with centers 400 m.'
6 milling machines;
2 special drills for "Ship" tools;
5 flat grinding machines;
4 mechanical drills.

The butts of the submachine guns and the shipping cases are manufactured
in this section.
'Covered lumber warehouses covering an area of 35 by 15 m.
Single-story buildings appraxittely 35 by 20 m. The training shop
is located here.
