NDP functionaries discussed the possibility of a fusion of the NDP with the
BED on 12`March 1954. The suppestion that the NDP be merged. with the SID was
alle ec`l1y, made by Friedrich 'Pfaffenbach, chairman of the Berlin organization of
the~I', Several persona who attended the meeting believed that the merger be-
tween the NDP and the,,SED had been instig?aied by the BED Central Ccuamittee. Source
learned that the NDP functionaries attending,the meeting mentioned, although
they agreed with the plan in principle, voiced many objections in detail,
According to source's information, the center of the opposition against the merger
betteen the NDP and the SEW is Dr. Lotl ,r Bails, whose opinion is ehatgdby several
high-ranking ND? leaders. Bolz was, allegedly, reprimanded by Ulbricht and
G}rotewohl because of his stand in this matter.
