THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION According to I Ithe East German State Committee for Materials Supply, the motor vehicle tires situation in the GDR has entered a critical phase. 25X1 the latest market analysis prepared by DIAL Gummi./Asbest and Kunststo e (rubber/asbestool and plastics) indicated that there was a shortage of 500,000 motor vehicle tires. This shortage which cannot be. eliminated because of a lack of raw materials and producti facilities will seriously impede motor vehicle production in the GDR. The critical situation in the field, of tires was mainly caused by the poor quality of tires manufac- tured. 25X1 2. the East German Council of Ministers, on 24 March 1954, resolved that a new tire plant be constructed. A total of 12,000,000 eastmarks has been allo- cated for the installation which will have an annual capacity of 250,000 motor vehicle tires. The a=snew plant will not be ab 9 to start production before 1955. Proposed Construction of a New Tire Plant
