In March 1953, the activity- which had been carried on at Pirna. suddenly stopped.
and all the Vtii13.1ng8- which- had;..b'46fi lorea%4d ' for the project., were given over
to the civilian population. However, at the beginning of December 1953 the pro-
ject, which dealt with airplane research, was resumed. At the present time, the
old building of the research institute is again in operation. Approximately
300-1OOengineera, construction personnel, technicians and adminis.rative personnel,
including some fifteen women, who -qi_or. k. ' in the accounting and bookkeeping
offices, are employed. The management of the project is in Russian hands.
2. Since the terrain of Sonnenstein is unsuitable for an airport, because of climatic
and technical reasons, new jet type planes are tested at the airport at
Bischofswerda.
3. Since the beginning of March 1954.. an administration building of the complex ( the
former Adolf_Iitler_School) has been occupied by a company of Volkspolizei.
The complex at Sonnenstein is guarded by some 60-70.Volkspolizei, who patrol
the area with fixed bayonets and dogs.
