Three tunnels are under construction in Plovdiv, as follanst a. Two in Armensko Hills started in 19513 and b. One in Nebet Hi]lj informant was unable to specify when construction started. 2. One of the tunnels in Armensko Hill runs from Maksim Gorki Streets opening near a bridge over the Maritsa River (see No. 1 of the sketch in Appendizs page 2). This tunnel is in an advanced stage of construction. 3. The other tunnel an Maksim Gorki Street goes into the interior of the hill in a southwestern direction. Informant did not know exactly where it opens (see No. 2 of the sketch). Work on this tunnel is proceeding slowly. 4. These two tunnels have a diameter apprariaately that of railroad tunnels. In- formant noted the presence of narrow-gauge rail oars and pneumatic banners. Mine explosives are used at both locations. 5. Concerning the tunnel indicated as No. 1 an the sketchy informant heard that it is to be an underground connection between Maksis Gorki Street and the Maritsa River. Informant could give no details concerning tunnel No. 2. 6. Informant heard that the tunnel under Nebet Hill is being constructed for a new road to Isarkapia (sic) because the old road is dangerous.
