Approved For Release 2007/07/12 : CIA-RDP80-0081OA004401040004-7 CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY INFORMATION REPORT SUBJECT Development of Radar and Infrared Equipment PLACE ACQUIRED 50 Germans an some 450 Soviets were employed in this camp, which was equipped with laboratories and workshops for the manufacture of high frequency and ultrasonic equipment. This camp, as well as some others, was under the supervision of General Shilosov (fnu). The camps were under the jurisdiction of the MVD but the Border Guards were also re- presented. MVD personnel had royal blue collar tabs; those of the Border Guards were green) 2. The radar equipment built in the camp was based on German and American 25X1 models. The basic reference material used was a 26-volume publication, published in the United States. Newer materials, published in western scientific journals, were also exploited. Since the capacity of the 25X1 workshops was extremely limited, the model parts were made during the day and small serial production was done during the night. The informant believed that radar equipment was also produced outfide of the plant. a. The development of testing equipment for measuring the reflection of 25X1 searchlight beams from concave mirrors. b. The development of a_ device for the projection and reception of infrared beams. This device was intended for use by the Border 25X1 Guards. The apparatus was to be capable of emitting a beam, one kilometer long, and of measuring any interruption of the beam. This would permit, for example, the detection of an illegal border crosser. 25X1 STATE X ARMY X NAVY X AIR I X FBE AEC OSI ev x This Document contains Information affecting the We- tional Defense of the United States, within the meam- 1nR of Title 18, Sections 793 and 794. of the U.S. Code. as amended.
