I Iconstruction located west of Asparukhovo and one located approxima tely 150 meters from the road which runs to Priseltsi, near Asparukhovo. 3? construction project in the Gyundyuza area, west of Asparukhdvo. The camp for the Trudovaks who worked on the project was located approximately 100 meters from the last house on the western edge of the Gypsy section of Asparukhovo. The special construction project near Asparukhovo included the following installationst a. A double tunnel in the shape of a horseshoe, whose sides are each about 70 meters long,, about 1.8 meters wide, and about 2.5 meters high;a shaft designed to house huge petrole un tanks made of iron, has been built in each wing just before the bend in the tunnel; the shaft for the north wing is large and can hold a 15-ton capacity iron tank; the shaft for the south wing is smaller and can hold an iron tank whose capacity is 3-4 tons; in the bend of the horseshoe-shEped tunnel, there is a wide area (as a hall) which is 20 meters long, 10 meters wide, and 10 meters high; b. The walls and the floor of the tunnel, including the shafta and the interior hall, are made of concrete 80 centimeters thick and are strengthened with reinforced concrete 20 millimeters (sic) in thickness; and c. It was reported that all the tunnel walls would be covered with 40 x 60 centimeter asbestos-cement slabs fastened to the walls by meals of screws and that the tunnel floor would be covered with beech parquet(sic). 6. The tunnel was designed to have water and electrical installations. It has been excavated in clay soil and in sparsely located rock. The layer of earth above the tunnel is at least 15-20 meters thick and above the central area (the hall) about 30-140 meters thick. Reinforced concrete shields are built above the entrance. It was reported that some kind of radar installations would be housed in this tunnel. 7. A system of antennas has been built on the outside, above the central area of the tunnel* This system consists of 114-15 masts which are 10-12 meters high and are arranged in a circle and are placed on reinforced concrete bases which are 140 x 140 centimeters in size. A strong electric light which throws a red light is installed at the top of each of these masts. A cable about one centimeter in diameter connects the upper parts of the masts. Some of the masts are connected by one cable and others are connected by two cables spaced approximately 140 centimeters apart. Each of the cables has a porcelain insulator near each of the masts. Each of the'masts whidh have'two cables between then is equipped with an iron ring. 8. The masts are spaced approximately 15-30 meters apart. Four cables (each of 15-20 strands) of three series are hung perpendicularly from various heights a stake which has a reel with a handle-~ tightening it.' 25X1 I LZDAI 9? In March 1952 special installations of the type described above were to have been constructed in the valley between the new "VMS" (Voenna Morska Sila: Naval Forces) barracks~(at the corner between the highway to the Chayka seaplane base and a branch road running from it to the new road for the VMS ammunition depots) and the VMS ammunition . In March 1953, construction material was stored here. about 200 cubic meters of gravel and about 7-8 carloads of broken stone deposited here in front of a stream. At the same time it was reported that Trudovak Company, Podeleri e 214-70, subordinate to Trudovak Battalion, Podelenie 24-140, of the Varna Trudovak Brigade, Podelenie 214-00, would be assigned to work on the new construction project. However, it was said later that the construction of the project would be postponed temporarily and that it would be resumed in the fall of 1953. 10. In March 1953, another special construction project, located south of Karantinata (N 43-10, E 27-55) was started. Lumber was brought here, but the construction of this project was also temporarily halted. In connection with the construction of special projects, the area from the "Morski Zvutsi" Hunting Lodge had been declared off limits.
