The CinWStography,'.Cgmmittee (Kinematograf Koaeitet),, directly subordinate to the Council of Ministerp,controls all matters concerning film production in Bulgaria. The Committee, located at No. 135 Rakovska Street, was established immediately after the dissolution of the Oinenlatography Directorate. 2. Newsreels, particularly the well-known Novosti Dniye (News of the Day), are made in a 6-story studio on Shvedski Street, ' near the Levski Monument. The staff of this studio numbers approximately 100, all of whOM , are Bulgarians. 3. The majority of all scenes for Bulgarian movies are now shot in the studio on Lyuben Karavelov Street, now known as Pavi3?i No. 2. Full-length films are made at the Tulovo Studio, located,in the Tulovo section of Sofia near the Italian Legation. The producers and technicians of this studio were all trained abroad; a number of them studied for four or five years in the USSR, Czecho- slovakia, or Poland. The studio's equipment includes: a. Three or four German "Moviola" (montage) machines; b. A "Band-Spieler" of German manufacture, operating on eight channels and purchased from the USSR in 1952; c. Several "magnetophones," one for 16 millimeter films? purchased from Ger- many, and one for 32 millimeter films, purchased from the USSR; d. One "Kammer-Wagen" for outdoor shooting; and e. One "sound ear" for outdoor shooting. The Gurka Film Dubbing Studio, located at No. 52 Gurka Street, was established in 1940 to synchronize foreign films. The first two years3of its existence were devoted to installation of equipment and training of personnel. Two new projectors of German manufacture, one Fabak and one Ernemann. The total Bulgarian film production for 1953 consisted of 52 newsreels, made at the studio on Karl Shvedski Street; four full-length original Bulgarian films, made at the Tulovo Studio; and 10 synchronized foreign Mns, made at the Gurka Film Dubbing Studio. personalities a.
