(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) l.- At a conference held on 22 April 1954 in the East German Ministry of Heavy Industry, HV Kunststoffe,.it was scheduled to:produce 1,000,000 motor vehicle tires in 1955. Provided that sufficient motley for investments can be made available)theproduction is-to be increased to 1,200,000 motor vehicle tires. Despite this increase in production, however, it will not be possible to cover the demand which is estimated at a total of 1,900,000 tires for 1954. 2. Since, in 1954, the East German tire production will fall short of the demand by 500,000 tires, it was resolved at the above-mentioned conference to import 200,000 tires of all kinds-from Czechoslovakia provided that sufficient money can be made available. 3. It is believed that East Germany will not be able to increase the production capacity of her tire plants before the and of 1954. The plan of erecting a new tire plant with an annual capacity of 250,000 tires was abandoned. Instead, the existing tire, plants were to be expanded to produce an additional output of 250,000 tires over and above the 1954 production. However, on 26 April, the Council of Ministers refused to grant the 12,000,000 eastmarks required for the expansion. Thus, in 1955, the tire production in East Germany will fall short of the demand by a total of 950,000 tires.
