1. During May 1954, the Czech Army conducted maneuvers in the forest area north-
east of Rabensburg, Lower Austria (E 16? 54', N 48? 39'). During the night
the maneuver area was repeatedly lit up by flares.
2. On the afternoon of 26 May, two columns of dark green army trucks were observed
to meet about 200 meters east of bench mark (Kote) 154, which is at the bridge.
across the Thaya northeast of Rabensburg>. The trucks resembled Skoda 3.54on
trucks. They drove southward, crossed the: U?tr1eala-:.3cnowri,:a: the SchifTahrt, and
parked on the edge of the woods, An exercise was kield which centered on the
advance of troops carrying rubber boats toward the Schiffahrt and the rioter.
The troops carrying the boats were supported by other infantry soldiers,
and smoke grenades were used to screen the advance.
3. On about 15 May, Czech pioneer troops had erected temporary wooden bridges at
a point about 250 meters east of bench mark 154 and at another point about 750
meters southeast of the bench mark, across the Schiffahrt. A bridge, destroyed
in the war, had stood on,the latter spot. The house which'stood on the east
bank of the Schiffahrt at this point has been razed and the position has been
made into a concrete bunker. By 29 May the latter bridge had been removed.
