wished to establish a Communist Party of the RSFSR, with its Central Committee
located in'Leningrad, and to make Leningrad the capital of the RSFSR.
Stalin feared that Leningrad would then rival Moscow, that the leaders of
the RSFSR would oppose the leaders of the USSR, and that the authority of
the latter would suffer as a result. Fearing this, Stalin removed Voznesenskiy
and Kuznetsov. They were arrested in 1950 and were shot after several
months of imprisonment.)
