On 17 May, there was intensive air activity by individual MiG-15s and U-.MiG-15s which made local flights, while other aircraft. practiced flying in formations of two and four..1 2. Op 26 Apri.l, a resident of Lichterfelde stated that a Soviet aircraft had crashed in Lichterfelde on the evening of 23 April. Several houses had been damaged and a woman injured. On 17 Yay, the place of accident was cleared and the damaged houses were repaired by order of the Soviets. 3. On 2 May, a special motor vehicle, sir:ilar to an Opel Kadett, was observed at the take-off point. From this car a cable extended to the left side of a MiG-.15. The car probably was a starter carriage as, irzodiately after the cable connection to the aircraft was effected, the jet engine was started. 4. On 22 May, 2 trucks, 1 searchlight about 2 meters in diameter, and 1 two-wheeled generator, about 2.5 Peters long, were observed about 500 meters south of Finow -Finowfurt road. Two air force soldiers were engaged n fitting a device, similar to a radar set, on the searchlight. Between 26 April and 2 May, only 3 x,37-mm AA guns were observed in the AA gun emplacement in the southeastern corner of the field. On 5 May, a new wooden hut, about 6 x 8 meters, was observed east of the northern end of. the short runway. About 10 soldiers worked observed in the southeastern corner of the field about 100 meters west of the AA gun emplacement. On 10 May, a Kniferesta-type radar set was observed aboix 300 meters south of kilometer marker 6;1 on the Finow-Finotrfurth road, About 200 meters west of this set was a small hill with a Token-type radar set oil top. 3 At the beginning of may, 37-m AA guns were observed in the AA gun emplacement in the southeastern corner of the field. Sentries wearing red-bordered black epa~-,lets were posted at the southern guardliouse.4 Approved For Release 2007/08/13: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA004501130003-7 A model AL 4 Mk 3 radar set and, at a distance of some meters, a Fishnet-type radar set were observed west of Elesenthaler Strassa, north of the LA gun emplacement. 7. During May, M1G-15s and U4IIG-15s were repeatedly observed flying at the field. The aircraft strength at the field was estimated at 60 `:iG-15s and U IUG-15s . I- 8. On 5 and 10 May, a truck mounting 'a model AA 4 14K 3 radar set was on the hut. 12. Finow airfield was observed almost every day between 24 and 29 May, Local flights were made by individual aircraft and in elements of twos. On one day a formation of aircraft was observed flyinu at a high altitude, On 27 May, about 50 MiG-15s and U$4iG-15e were parked at the northern edge of the field. 13. At the end of May, 4 x 37-mm AA guns were observed in the AA grata emplacement in the southeastern corner of the field. The bamb piles in the northeastern corner of the field were no longer recognized as such. They were protected by a roof and covered on the sides. Cement. It appears that Finow airfield is still occu ied a fighter division headquarters and two fighter regiments. Comment. For Iodation and sketch of radar set, see Annex. Comment. A light AA battery of 6 x 3'7-mm AA guns is stationed at Finow airfieldo The radar sets mentioned were previously reported.
