Prior to June 1954, work establishments had accepted women for employment only on production of a medical certificate, issued free by the Health Center, stating that they were not pregnant. At the beginning of June 1954, the Ministry of Health sent instructions' to the Health Centers forbidding the issue of such certificates, and women are n8t accepted for employment even if they are pregnant. 2.
