(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) 1. ship was berthed at the Andreasholm Quay in Riga in January 1954; the ship was berthed near the grain elevator at the approximate position N 56-51312, E 24-05-30. No foreign ships were observed da-the-area. The'-old mechanical equipment, as well as its conveyers and four scales were in good condition. The river bank sloped down in the vicinity of the grain elevator, and loading chutes were put out-to the ships. -Me Sketch No. 1 of Riga Harbor). 2. On the export wharf, there were four modern cranes, with a lifting capacity of 7,500 kilograms. There were also 12 ordina loading cranes and four ordinary 25X1 turning-cranes. The wharf was modern in design and was equipped with spur tracks and modern storage facilities. Four Soviet ships and one French ship were loading at the export wharf. 25X1 3. an old floating crane, with a lifting capacity of 25 or 30 tons, near the grain elevator. The coal bunkering station was located upstream on the opposite side of the river from the export wharf. No oil storage facilities were observed, but a lumber storage area was observed on the left 25X1 side of the harbor entrance, at N 57-01-48, E 24-0600. 4. A fishing harbor was located next to the lumber storage area. There was a small wharf in the harbor, 28 yellow-painted fishing boats of the most modern type and 57 motor cutters. Four fishing boats were 25X1 observed on the ways. 5. There was a wharf at N 57-01-48p E 24-06-00 with two large floating docks approximately 140 meters in length. The bar the ...outh , . ........ n- v river, below the protrct:ivc d.:,, aas 8 meters deep, and it had to be navigated with care, stack amidships; a sloping mast located at the stern of the bridge; one 10-centi- meter gun forward of the bridge, and another aft of the stack; and a screen-shaped radar antenna on top of the mast. The ships were painted blue-gray, and there was a minesweeping paravane on the bow of each of the vessels, 25X1 8. Thirty motor torpedo boats were observed on the breakwater in front of the Winter Harbor, at N 57-02-50, E 24-02-12. The torpedo boats were on movable under- carriages 25X1 which ran on rails. Five of the torpedo boats had a ball-shaped bow with equipment (sic). 9. At the entrance to the Winter Harbor, three submarines lay alongside the vessel. 25X1 an 8,000 ton steamer; approximately 135 meters in length; a mast with large yardarms was located forward of the bridge, with a crow's nest and a searchlight; a second mast was located aft of the superstructure; the bow of the vessel was steep, in an old stern-post form; a gun was located on the aft-r section of the ship; an antiaircraft gun was located in front of the stack; a screen-shaped radar antenna was located on the bridge; and the ship wa:25X1 painted gray 10. described the three submarines (see Sketch No. 6) as follows: the bow and stern were under water; the skin of the conning tower blended into the hull; the vessels were approximately 35 meters long; no armament or snorkel equipment was observed; they were painted silver-gray and no identification marks were observed, The conning tower was smooth; from astern it looked dome-shaped, and 25X1 from behind flat-shaped, No diving tubes were observed. j.1, There were approximately 30 submarines farther inside the Winter Harbor. 12. a supply ship (see Sketch No. 3), 0 described the vessel as follows: about 70 meters long; a loading mast with three booms on the bow; screen-shaped radar; towing equipment; no heavy armament but there were antiaircraft guns; the bow and stern of the vessel were shaped like those of an escort vessel; and the ship was painted blue-green. was not equipped with radar equipment, owing equipa.ient on deck, and the tug was painted black. The airfield at Riga was located on the right side of the Danp;ava River, an one entered the port: the airfield extended from aooroxim.tely N 56-58-48 to r; 56-59-54, and was about 1,000 to 1,200 meters long It extended in a westerly direction to a hill, which was covered with trees. A radio station was located at N 57-00-16, E 21-06-05. constructions. Three other masts, about 25 meters high and of tubular construct- ion, were located to the east of the radio station. 17. A large new plant was under construction at N 57-02-06, E 24-06-06. Barracks were also under construction near the Winter Harbor at N 57-02-50, E 24-06-12.
