On 19 May,two large destroyers or light cruisers were observed at
Ventspils. The vessels were believed to be about 120 meters long.
Each ship had one stack, one turret, and a completely straight bow.
The turret was described as similar to the turret on the ADMIRAL
MAKAROV; the turret was also described as being straight but possibly
somewhat slanting (sic). There were also 15 submarine chasers of the
BO type, two submarines, and three motor torpedo boats in the harbor.
The torpedo boats were moored at the south quay near the bend in the
river. In the same area as the torpedo boats, there was a p(ntoon
about 60 meters long with a freeboard of about 30 centimeters. There
were three manholes on the deck of the pontoon; each manhole was about
60 centimeters in diameter. About 15 meters from the manholes there
were four rods, each of which was about one meter high, on the deck
of the pontoon.
