With a gentle to moderate easterly wind and a visibility of 15 miles, the
vessel steered a southeasterly course at an estimated speed of 16 to 18 knots.

sighted proceeding at 10 knots toward Porkkala. It had a long foredeck, a
small mast in the middle of the bridge, and a smokestack with.a black hood
only a little taller than the bridge. It had no visible armament.
