1. In June 1954, informmt observed that extension work was proceeding on an
airfield southwest ofPollkula in the Paldiski area.1 The field was last
modernized in 1948.
2. The field was surrounded by barbed wire and three- to four-meter-high towers
occupied by military guards with 'submachine guns. At night, searchlights
were sometimes used. Passes to the area were issued only to personnel work-
ing at the field. Military personnel from other Units were refused entrance.
3. The runways, which were paved in 1948, were over 2,000 meters long. and 60
to 80 meters wide. The runways had a 50-to 60-centimeter foundation of
stone.
4. Continual reinforcement of the field has take place since 1951. Since 1953,
the aircraft complement of the field has chiefly consisted of twin-engine
jet bombers. Single-engine jet aircraft have also beenlobserved.
5. Two roads have been constructed from the airfield to Pollkula and Klooga.
A fuel storage area for the air force has been set up at Klooga.
