Kononov (fnu), ti h er of Meszhart Hun arian-Sovict YL.:vigation, Inc.) had stated that the Russians were to retire from Tieszh1.rt by the end of September 1954. 2. The 49' which constituted the Soviet part of the ownership of iieszhiart was in the form of the coal mines of Pecs. These coal nines were sold to the Hunarian Govern- L, in 1951-52, and the Russians agreed to contribute other prop-:ert - equal to the anount required to rake u'? the 49`,x. 3. This agreement was not carried out, thus the Prussians technically still. owe the Noszh.rt 49 0 :- 1952. 4. In view of the more lenient Soviet policy being adopted in.lluri;aiy, it is considered by executives of Iie;:zh4rt that Russians do not want to invest capital in I.ieszhLrt and have Decided to give up their partnership., while conveniently forgetting their debt- J ' :1 have accrued since 1752. 5. The Russians "!so intend to retire from idaszolaj (Hungarian Soviet Oil Company) and Naszovlet (Hungarian-Soviet Airways Comipany).l Comment: This ap"ears to confirm previously received indications that the Russians ad or are about to pull out from the. three joint companies referred to in this report.
