Kazanlik Airfields(26-27 August 1954)
le A second airfield is located at Kazanluk approximately 2-3 kilometers south-southeast
of Kazanluk, as indicated in the sketch included as an Appendix on page 2. It is
located approximately two kilometers south of the Kazanl k-Tulovo (N 42-35, E 25-34)
railway line. This field is rectangular in shape, approximately 500 x1,000 meters
in size, and is bordered to the north by trees.
2. Approximately 12 YAK-9s were observed landing and taking,off singly. Thist f eld
appears to be used also by DOSO (IDobrovolna Organizatsiya za Sudeystvi( na Otbranata;
Voluntary Organization for Defense Assistance). On 26 August at 6s00 p.m., four.
parachutists were dropped over this field. 25X1
3. On 27 August at 7:00 a.m., a. biplane was observed taking off. It was towing a
glider.

In front of the workshops of the former "Caproni"..Factory, approximately two'.
kilometers north-northwest of Kazanl k, a propeller-driven YAK aircraft was observed
.
No other aircraft were observed at this field which is square in shape, approximately
1,500 meters per side, and has a natural surfaces
Marino Pole Airfield (26-27 August 1954)
6. The Marino Pole/Karlovo (now Levskigrad) airfield has no concrete runway and includes
a large. number of unidentified buildings on the north side and a workshop on the south
side. The field is estimated to be approximately 1,500 x 2,000 meters in size.
On 26-27 August 1954, about 12 piston-engine aircraft were observed at this field:
six in front of. the buildings to the north of the field (one a small twin-engine plane),
and six in front of.the buildings on the south side (lined up in two rows facing each
other).

Sokolov Airfield (August 1954)
8. An airfield is located south of Sokolovo (N )3-28, E 28-06), eight kilometers
north-northwest of Balchik. In early August 1951, the following aircraft were
observed at this airfield:
a. Six twin-engine bombers;
b. Two small jet aircraft; and
c. Five YAK-3s or YAK-7s.
