Since January 1954, work on the !i el!~"Ar.}, c f Vt r,
with abo-it 40,000 relays has been under way at the devel.oprient department of
VEB Zeiss headed by Dr Cortum (fnu) o The calculati. rachine has been desig;nnd
at the Institute of Hathemat?es of the Dresden Institute of Technology headed
by Professor Will ore (fnu). The same institute worked on pro acts for an
electronic c'lculating machine. It vas belie=ved that the CUR I4i.nist:.?y of the
Interior sponsored the project and had [,ranted approximately 1,000,000
eastmarks for the development of the calculating machine in flay 1954. After
completion, the machine is to be used first at the Zeiss Firm fcr calculations
connected with the building of optical inetruiients. The targe'8 date for i o ootnpi,~ticr,
