When loaded to a 14-root n ph, the ship was aground alongside the quay at low tide. loaded at both floating quays at Mezen. Both quays were practically identical, cargo on the ship. There were many soldiers on the ship, stern. (See Sketeh on paw 24 three military trucks as deck a Soviet merchant ship of about 600 to 700 DWT anchored some distance up the river and remained there for several days. It was a motor ship and was painted light gray. The ship had a forecastle, a short afterdeck, one stack, two masts, an elevated afterdeck',(sic),and. a blunt the vessel was a naval transport vessel engage in routine military 3. 1+. The only air activity observed consisted of a two-engine aircraft which flew over Mezen daily and landed on the other side of the river. This aircraft resembled a DC-3. It was usually observed in flight during the forenoon with irregular appearances during the rest of the day. ship was located about 15 miles offshore west of Kharlov Island (N -+9, E 37-21).
