From there, the ship sailed through the ice to the open water 10 or 15 nautical miles southwest of Cape Karin Nos.? At that position the vessel was hailed by a Soviet trawler The trawler was about 120 to 150 feet long and was reinforced for ice navigation; it was the .same type .as the vessels which sail in large numbers northward The trawler was not armed, but it appeared to operate as a patrol boat. The captain of the Soviet vessel claimed that ship was inside the territorial limits, and that all the courses followed by ship during the preceding two or three days had been plotted. These courses were 15 to 30 nautical miles off shore.
