COUNTRY CLASSIFICATION 4"K r This is UNEVALUATED 25X1 1, The following observations were made at the Richthofen Kaserne in Doeberitz 25X1 between 20 August and 18 September 1954$ Activities mainly included instruction.; manual exercises and athletics. Apparently the unit was preparing for an athletic contest. In early September,, a group of 32 officers held an exercise with gas masks,, gas protective suits and antigas paulins. The officers repeatedly checked on the time required to put on the gas protecting equipment. Class rooms were located in building No 16,, Young officers wearing an embroidered wing i,i?h crossed hammer and wrench insignia,, about 10 cm long,, on the right side of their breast,, were repeatedly seen there. This insignia was previously observed worn by soldiers stationed in the NSKK Kaserne. The officers usually carried books and apparently were instructors Trucks were identified in the barracks installation. 25X1 2. Between 20 August and 18 September, there was apparently no change in the occupation of the NSKK Kaserne in Doeberitz. Only light activities were observed at the installation. Small groups of soldiers were occasionally seen drilling. Personnel were repeatedly seen engaged in athletics. .Groups of 30 to 40 men who carried books were often seen marching toward their class rooms. No official ccinnunication between the unit stationed in the NSKK Kaserne and that in the Richthofen Kaaserne was determinedol 25X1 I, About 1400 on 1 September, a twin-engine monoplane landed at Doeberitz airfield. In addition, four biplanes were seen at the field. These aircraft took off and landed at irregular intervals and were occasionally seen flying over the field in formations of two and three. 25X1 4. On 23 August., the AA gun emplacements at the western edge of the field were occupiedo.The gun emplacement located further to the north was occupied by six 37.4mn AA guns with shields. About 0800 on 1 September, 7 railroad tank cars were shunted to the field,, In the afternoon, the tank cars had been removed again, 7, Between 21 August and 17 September, Po--2s landed almost daily at the field at irregular times. After a short stays the aircraft took off again, usually heading toward the south,, About 2000 on 26 Aug1jstq 5 single-engine monoplanes were seen aloft. In September,, no high wing monoplanes were seen at the field. Members of the t chnical instruction unit station in the 14SKK Kaserne (formerly at Al-tenburg).probably receive instructions at the air technical school stationed in the Richthofen Kaserne.
