3. After completion of the fall insnections9 the discharge. program started in early
October or mid-October. Dischargees of the 2d Inf Regt included about 200 NCOs
and men who had served for three years. Nb officers were released. On 24.
September, Lieutenant Colonel Sommer (fnu) s chief of ' staff of the d 4ision 9gave
a speech and asked all dischargees to reenlist. Between 1 and 23 Sep aber9 155
recruits were inducted into the 2d Infantry Regiment Prenzlauo Seventy percent of
the recruits came from Mecklenburg,, and 30 percent came from Berlin and its
vicinity, Most of the recruits were members of the FDJ0 Since no more recruits were
to be assigned to.the 21 Inf Regt9 other replacements will be attached to ether
units of the division,

On 1? Saptem'ber9 44 new ZIS 3 1/2-ton trucks were consigned by the Aschersleben
Plant to the let Inf Regt Pinnowo On 25 September, 10 motor vehicle drivers gf
the 2d Inf Regt were detached to .Lschersleben to take over the new vehicles,

50 On 29 August, the 2d Bn of the 2d Inf Regt together with the engineer
ccopany of the regiment practiced stream-crossing on the Uecker River.
Since more than 60 percent of VPs of the 2d Inf Regt were detached
for harvest in the Prens1au districts, between I and 10 Septcabar9 the
scheduled field exercises and a regular training could not be conducted,
Between 13 and 17 September, a field exercise was held at Schorfheids
Heath in the area of cross Schoenebeok north of Berlin? KVP units
participating included the division headquaartersa, the headquarters of the 25X1
artillery regiment and tank regiment, and the let Inf Regt and 2d Inf Regt0
The total strength was about 19800 Asa Subject of tr, inisng was the
employment of a regiment in attack and defense with each regiment
alternotely representing the enemy. Since the fall inspections were held in
