The following is a report on the situation at VEB IFA Phaenomen motor vehicle
warka, Zittau, at the end of August 1954?
1. ~e~sonnel:
The personnel numbers about 2,000 workers.
2. Sh ft
The plant works three shifts. No work is carried out on Sundays.
~. Twe of Product:
(e) The products are 1-ton and 1-~-ton vehicles with Diesel and gasoline engines,
of the following typess
Bus
Box vans. (Lastkraft~,-a~en (LKW)-Kasten)
Jeeps. (Militaikuebelwagen)
(b) The engines are supplied by the VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Ramenz and stampings
for the hood and the driver's cabin come from the Phaenomen plant at Seifhannersdorf.
These are assembled at the Phaenomen works along with the chassis. The bodies
are produced and Pitted to the chassis by a plant at Bautzen, at which site the
chassis arrive by rail.
(c) The vehicles are fitted with engines of the following types:
(1) 60 HP Granit Diesel engine.
(2) 55 HP Otto gasoline engine.
(d) The attached Sketch Nc. 2 is a ditaaram of the chassis of a box van. Chassis
intended for buses and deeps have no driver's cabins and the ~aep chassis is shorter

than the others. The drive ie rear wheel. Tires are 600 x 25. There are
double wheels on the rear axles. The fuel tank under the driver.~a seat.
All deeps are fitted with gasoline engines.
(e) The mehicles possess good tractive power and are good hill climbers.

The plant is fully occupied and the three shifts normally produce a total of
about 30 vehicles patchy. When there is a shortage of materiala~ productioa
drops to about 7 vehicles per shift or about 20 vehicles in all.

The attached Sketch No, l shows the layout of the corks. The sketch is aelf-
explanatory.
