1. On 31 August 1954 the National Constriction and Planning Office,for Machine
Industry and Industrial Plants (OrszAgos Gepipari es Gyaripari Epito es Tervezo
Hivatal), located on Krisztina Korut in Budapest, received notification of the
dismissal of 1,000 of its 1,500 employees.
2. The United Incandescent Factory (Egyesult Izzb) in Budapest, employs approximately
800 people in its administrative section. In late August 1954,120 to 160 employees
were dismissed.
3. In late August 1954,approximately 300 employees of the Statistical Office were
dismissed.
The Orion factory, located at 77 V&ci U?,Budapest, 1 employs approximately 2,100
people. A reorganization in early September 1954 brought about the dismissal
of 200 employees and the transfer to other departments for 400 employees. The
factory management gave as reason for the reorganization that only 850 of the
2,100 employees were engaged in actual productive work. One effect of the re-
organization was the indirect lowering of wages: A woman technical worker, who
formerly earned 1,250 forint monthly, was transferred to physical labor and earns
only 780 forint monthly.
5. It is rumored that the following dismissals have taken place:
a. 500 people in the Ministry of Finance.
b. 3,000 men at the Mavag factory, located at 21 Kobanyai U., Budapest.
c. 3,000 employees at the kosi Works at Csepel.
6. It is rumored that the following dismissals will.take place:
a. 1,400 employees from the Office for the'Planning of Foundries (Kohbipari Ter-

vezo Iroda), located at 55 Krisztina Korut, Budapest.
