(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) The Georgi Genev Woolen Textile Factory 1. The Georgi Genev Woolen Textile Factory is located approximately 300 yards to the east of the center of Gabrovo, approximately 20 yards north of the Yantra River. The factory area is surrounded on all four sides by streets. Across the street to the south is the old Petolichka Yarn Mill, which is now a part of the Narodna Republika Woolen Yarn Mill. Across the street to the east is the Burya Knitting Factory. 2. There are four main buildings in the factory area, including the main office building and three workshops. (See Appendix for sketch of factory area based 3, The factory has 59 looms, several wool spinning machines, two blanket carding machines, one large drying machine heated by steam, one cloth rolling machine, one cylindrical ironing machine, three clothes washing machines, two centrifugal machines, four dyeing machines, two small drying machines, three wool carding machines, three raw wool carding machines (which prepare the raw wool for carding), two machines for fine carding, two machines for refining the woolen am, and three machines for rolling the yarn on bobbins. In the technical workshop there are two lathes and two steam boilers. The factory also has an electric power general which is not used. The factory employs about 300 laborers, half women, who work in three shifts. The Georai Genev Textile Factory manufactures woolen and cotton blankets, fine (kamgar) and coarse (shtaygar) fabrics, cotton linings for shoes, fabrics for women& coats, and fabrics for Army and Militia uniforms. The finished goods are stored in the factory warehouse until they are shipped to the state commercial establishment "Obleklo i Obuvhi" (Shoes and Clothing) and from there distributed to government retail stores throughout Bulgaria. 6. The goods manufactured for the Army and Militia are sent to the State Shoe and Clothing workshops called "Surp i Chuk", Gabrovo, where they are made into wearing apparel. 7. The factory's security is maintained by the Militia, six militiamen being on duty at the factory. There are billeted in the guardhouse near the gate. The Narodna Republika Woolen Yarn Mill S. The Main Office and Section Number One of the Narodna Republika Woolen Yarn 1111 is located about 200-250 yards to the east of the Georgi Genev Textile Factory, Section TWO is located 100-150 yards to the east of the main office, and Section Three is located across the street and to the south of the Georgi Genev Textile Factory. (See Appendix). 9. On 1 June 1953 the two woolen yarn factories "Potolichka" and "Edinstvo" were merged with the Narodna Republika Woolen Yarn Mill to form Sections Two and Three of the latter. 10. Informant worked at Section Three of the Factory, which is housed in a two story building, 40 meters long and 10 meters wide. Section Three also has two smaller buildings. 11. Section Three has about 20-30 spinning machines, about six fine and coarse carding machines, 5-6 small dyeing machines, and two small steam boilers. 12. Approximately 100 workers, working in two shifts, are employed at Section Three. This section has no administrative personnel; it is administered by Section One. Section Three has technicians and foremen. Informant does not know the names of any employees of the Narodna Republika Woolen Yarn Mill, as he was employed there for only one week. 13. The Narodna Republika Woolen Yarn Mill manufactures woolen yarns which are distributed to the woolen textile and woolen knitting mills by trucks. Other Industries in the Vicinity of Gabrovo 14. The following factories are located in the vicinity of Gabrovo: a. Elovitsa Powder Factory, 3-4 kilometers east of Eter village (N 42-49, g 25-21), which is eight kilometers east of Gabrovo. b. Petko Denev Knife Factory, near the Elovitsa Powder Factory. c. 23 Dekemvri Knitting Factory, formerly the Bidishtnost Factory. It is located between Bichkinya village (N 42-51, E 25-21) and Eter village, near Gabrovo. d. Orel Textile Factory, near Bichkinya village. e. Bolshevik Technical Instrument Factory, on the highway between Kazanliik (N 42-37, E 25-24) and Gabrovo, near Bichkinya village. It is a large factory manufacturing different kinds of technical instruments. f. Georgi Chankov Wool and Textile Factory, at Palanzovo village. Rayko Damyanov Cotton and Textile Factory, one kilometer southwest, of Smirnenski village, on the Gabrovo-Ozana highway. j. Ozana Saw Mill, between Smirenski village and Rayko Demyanov Textile Factory. k. Nadezhda Textile Factory, at Smirnenski village. 1. Burya Knitting Factory, near Georgi Genev Textile Factory, Gabrovo. r. Machine Factory, near the Georgi Genev Textile Factory, Gabrovo; manufactures spare parts for machines. s. Uspeh Textile Factory, near the Georgi Genev Textile Factory, Gabrovo. Reported to be the largest textile factory in Bulgaria. t. Zoya Knitting Factory, 10 meters west of the Uspeh Textile Factory, Gabrovo. u. Baba Zara Knitting Factory, 10 meters south of the machine factory in Gabrovo. v. Dobri Kartalov Knitting Factory, along the Sinkevitsa River in East Gabrovo. w. Wilk? Chervenkav Wool and Textile Factory, along the Sinkevitsa River, Gabrovo. x. Troitsa Wool Yarn Factory, along the Sinkevitsa River, a branch of the Uspeh Textile Factory. y. Yordanka Chenkova Garter Factory, in the center of Gabrovo along the Yantra River, opposite the Public Theater. z. Liv Iron Factory, in west Gabrovo; manufactures locks, etc. aa. Georgi Kirkov Leather Factory, along the Yantra River, outside Gabrovo, opposite the Surp I Chuk Clothing Establishment. Surp i Chuk Shoe, Clothing and Saddlery Factory, outside Gabrovo along the Yantra River. Was formerly used as a military workshop for sewing but is now a factory which makes shoes, clothing and saddlery for the military, as well as for civilians. kk. 9 Septemvri Wool and Textile Factory, outside Gabrovo along the Yantra River, two kilometers beyond the Georgi Kirkov Leather Factory U. Near the Surp i Chuk Factory; one kilometer west of the Gabrovo railway station, there are two brick factories, whose names informant does not know. mm. Balkan Jam and Marmalade Factory, outside Gabrovo. Formerly called the Ova shka Factory. nn. Vinprom Wine Factory, in northwest Gabrovo, on the Gabrovo-Sevlievo highway. Electric Power Facilities in Gabrovo 15. There is no electric power station in Gabrovo; there is only a large transformer station which is located near the center of the city near the Livovmost Bridge. Informant does not know where Gabrovo obtains its electricity, but has heard that it comes from southern Bulgaria. Because of the shortage of electricity in Gabrovo every industrial establishment must reduce its activity one day per week. Before the industries in Gabrovo were socialized, each industry used to have its own generating plant. Key to Appendix (Sketch is from a free-hand drawing by informant) 1.
