1. In general., since there. are no specific East German standards, it is impossible

legal status because the standards have been incorporated in laws giving
specifications for materials. It has been said that GOST standards are not
accepted because they are not readily available to German manufacturing
circles. Some GOST standards are identical with old DIN standards because -
some.GOST standards were, in part, based on DIN standards when they were

2. There are no East German handbooks on standards-)because the DIN standards
are generally accepted. 'bhere are standards known as TAN (Technische Arbeits -
Normen) which apply to individual plants only. They do not apply to quality
or other specifications for materials producedbut rather to work methods.
The TAN for one enterprise as a rule do not apply to another enterprise of the
same type of industry.

There i no connection between Soviet authorities and the DNA. The Ease
German vernment funct a as the only industrial entity in East Germany
and as at 'fie DMA it can request that the DNA prepare studies 25X1
on stun s. ,* min fields. It is p9ssible, of course, that Soviet
authorities p'il upon the East German pvernment to make such requests.
However, no evidence has been found that this has occurred.
