The production of the Jenaphar enterprise suffered from the uneven
quality of raw materials to be processed in Jena. Hi.hi;ouality raw
materials were mostly reserved for pharmaceutical products sche:=iu'ed
to be exported. No difficulties were experienced in the field of

Another prob:Lem hampering; the production of the Jenapharrn plant is
the shortage of technical personnel and skilled workers. Eight
employees with university training who were to be hired refused to
come to Jena because of housing difficulties. Many young workers
left the firm because higher paid jobs were offered to them by
the VP and the SED. The Personnel Department of the p;lant'is
moreover restricted in its planning by a strict "table of labor"
which fixes the maximum number of workers who may be employed.
4. All exports of pharmaceutical ~~roducts manufactured in Jena are 'hiandled.
