In the Caspian Sea there are three principal Soviet sea routes.which originate from Baku (N 40-25) E 49-50): a. Baku Makhacbkala (N 42.58, E 47-27) ~- Haji-Tarkhan (sic). The ships on this line are used for carrying lumber, other commodities, and passengers. b. Baku - Tazeh-Sbahr (sic). Cotton, foodstuffs, and other commodities are transported on this line. c. Baku - Pahlevi (N 3728,,E 49.28).' This is the main route connecting the Middle East countries with Baku. Rice, carpets, almonds, pistachios, dates, and other commodities are sent to the USSR via this line. Foreign passengers, Soviet diplomats, and other'Soviet officials use this line for their voyages. Several passenger boats operate along this line, and their main base is in Baku. 2. Because of the railroad extending between Astara (N 38.28, E 48-52) and Baku, sea transportation between these two cities was discontinued in 1944; and Soviet passengerlships and, freighters are no longer seen in Astara, Kalleh-bahaneh, and Qizil-Agha,. C0 t. This is probably Kizyl.Agach (N 39-03, E 48-48). 4 25X1 25X1 SECRET (NOTE, W-Vogfen dI*l6YNee Iaditded by "r, FNId 0*60" by a0u.)
