1. The Jowiez Coal Mine at Wojkowice Komorne (N50-22, E19-04) employs
approximately 1,900 civilian miners and about 1,000 soldiers of the'
5th Labor Batallion. The depth'of the coal mine is 350 meters, In
1948-49, this mine produced from 78,000 to 82,000 tons of coal per
month. By 1954, it had increased its production to between 98,E 25X1
and 100,000 tons monthly. It is believed that the Jowisz Mine has
reached its maximum potential and that it cannot exceed the 1954
figure in tonnage output per month.
2. The Prezydent Coal Mine at Chorzow employs approximately 1,500
civilians and about 600 soldiers belonging to the 9th Labor Batalli on.
The 1948-49 output at this mine was from 105,000 to 110,000 tons of 25X1
coal per month, whereas in 1954, its production fell to a little
below 100,000 tons monthly, probably about 95,000. The decrease can
be attributed to two factors: the mine shaft had been deepened to
220 meters (formerly it was only 100 meters); and a passive opposition
had arisen as a result of the spring of 1954 disaster at the Barbar II
Mine. 1
Comments Since the accident in the spring of 1954 at Barba a II,
~Lrirat 'mind hae ~'boen' inactive, and from all outward signs, it will reliain
so indefinitely.
