COUNTRY Approved For Release 2008/06/13: CIA-RDP80-00810A005800050006-0 CLASSIFICATION SEC Bast Germany REPOR Wittstook Airfield EVALUATION LA OBTAINED 25X1 DATE OF CONTENT 25X1 - DATE OBTAINED 22 December 1954 REFERENCES 2 PAGES ENCLOSURES (NO. & TYPE) REMARKS 25X1- 1. The following air activity and aircraft were observed at Wittetock airfield betwee25X1 21 October and 11 November 1954: 21 October to 9 November. There was no air activity. The possibilities of observation were limited. An average of 15 to 18 MIG-158 or U-M1G-15s were parked on the landing fields Three vehicles which looked like radio trucks were seen between tha taxiway and runway, approximately in the middle of the landing field. 25X1 device mounted on the rRof of one vehicle rotated continuously although no air activity was under way. 10 November. Air activity by MiG-15s or U-MiG-15s began at 0900. Take-offs were made by the following swept-back jet fighters: 2 at 1345, 2 at 1415, and 1 at 11.30. The first two planes headed toward Alt Daber. The 3 radio trucks were again observed in the middle of the landing field between the taxiway and runway. A total of 13 MG-158 or U-MiG-15s were counted at the field. The Token-type radar set on Rockstaedter Mountain was in operation and rotated 6 time within 1 minute. 11 November. At 1400, a MiG-14 or U MiG-15 with the No 1484 took off. Swept-back jet fighters observed at the field included 2 in front of the western hangar, 15 in front of the eastern hangars and 6 east of the hangars. An element of 2 MiG-158 or U-MiG-15s took off at 1430 and 1 Po-.2 took off at 1445. No additional air activity was observed from a distance.) 2. The Fishnet-type radar set and the Kniferest-type set, which had previously been observed southwest of the athletic field, were not seen on 31 October. The new location of th* sets could not be determined. No other radar sets were observed at the field. Two new wooden barracks were seen near the previously reported radio installation of 2 masts. From the barracks one telephone line extended to the airfield and another telephone line toward Berlinchen. Two rubber cables, each 2 to 3 cm in diameter, were seen on a row of masts. Previously, oa*rone such cable had been observed. Two personnel tents were located about 30 meters in front of the two wooden barracks. Near one tent there was an umbrella-shape antenna which was of the same type as the antenna previously observed on the hill southwest of the airfield not far from the Red Mill Inn. A cable extended from the upper ring into the tent. Next to the other tent was a mast about 6 meters high and with an unidentified antenna on top. Two cables extended from this antenna into the tent located next to it. 3. No changes were observed on the AA gun emplacements. The fuel duipp in the southeastern corner of the field was located north of the spur track.4 5. A festival was held at the field on 10 November on the occasion of the month of the German-Soviet friendship. Among the guests, members of the German police with their wives were invited. The Germans were taken to a building which was previously believed to be the flight control station and which was converted to a building housing a reception room, motion picture theater and library with German literature. During the evening, speeches were held, songs were sung, and there was dancing. 6. 79 Between 26 October and 4 November, no air activity was observed at the field. Up to 17 MiG-15s or U-MiG-15s were counted on the landing field. The alert aircraft were still parked at the eastern end of the runway.l 25X1 8. No changes were observed on the AA gun emplacement in the western section of the field about 150 meters from the Wittstock-Alt Daber road. 9. The following air activity was observed at the field between 8 and 18 November= 8 and 9 Novmber. No flights were made. 10 November. Individual flying was practised by MiG-15s or U-MiG-1580 13 November. Elements of 2 MiG-15s or U-MiG-15s practiced flying during the morning. Individual flights were made during the afternoon. 16 November.Individual flights were made during the morning. 25X1 14 to 18 November, No air activity was observed.1 Coa-ent. Wittstock airfield is still occupied.by one fighter regiment? Up to 18 MiG-15s or U-MIG-15s were counted on the landing field. Little air activity was resumed on 10 November. The same observation was also made at other airfields. Comment. The radar set with rotatable antenna on top was observed for the 25X1 first time in the middle of the landing field between the runway and taxiway. This location indicates that the set was presumably used as a landing aid. This would also account for the presence of 2 ad,1itional radio trucks presumably used as 25X1 generators. Comment. The removal of the radar station southwest of the athletic field was presumably connected with the overhauling of equipment during the fall. On 5 November 1954, the Kniferest-type set and the Fishnet-type set were again observed at their previous locations. SECRE Approved For Release 2008/06/13: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA005800050006-0
