On 1 December, 4 dark-green ta.nksl (left the Friderious Kaserne for the Gentzrode training area. During the transfer, the approach road was blocked by a major detail of soldiers wearing red- borderFd black epaulets. The tanks practiced driving in the training area. On 2 December, the tanks fired at the firing ranges over distances of approximately 1,600 meters. From a distance of approximately 200 meters, it was observed that the tanks were of a new type with a chassis similar to that of a T-74 tank, but with a round turret with unusually slanting armor. The turret was turtle-shaped. The gun barrel was long and thin. The tanks were slightly smaller than T- s. UNCODED 3. On 3 December, guns were unloaded from 6 flatcars at the Dallgow-Doeberitz r-ilroad station. Two of the guns were described as follows: similar to 12?-mm field howitzers, but lower, with smaller wheels and a longer barrel. The muzzles of the barrels were covered by muzzle caps. The guns, which may 25X1 have been 152-mm model 19#3 field howitzers, were the same which were unloaded in Doeberitz on 28 December and we usly taken for 120-mm field howitzers. Trucks owed the guns to Altes Lager (2061) in Doeberitz. Comment. Information in the present report indicates that the battalion, in the meantime, returned to the Friedrich-Franz Kaserne. The officers mentioned are known. 10 to 15 tanks, rived in Neuruppin on 13 November. Observations in the present report confirm this i-.formation. Comment. I 24 x 100-mm AT guns, which cat only belong to the 2d Light Arty Bri , were entrained in Doeberitz on 8 December. , The turning in o these guns tends to indicate that the 24 field howitzers. presumably of 152 mm caliber, which arrived prior to 3 December, were assigned to the brigade in connection with the reequipment which was previously mentioned. Similar observations were made at the artillery brigade of the Fourth Gds Mech Army in Bernau. It is believed that the guns vroceeded to Olympisches Dorf (2067). 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 /\/ 61 Z F A S CRET/ Approved For Release 2008/06/13: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA005800060002-3
