1.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI; Ministerul Afacerilor Interne) has
at its disposal several rest homes for the use of its employees. These
homes are located in the foremost vacation spots of Rumania, such as,
Eforia, near Constants; at Baile Herculane, in the Banat; at Sovata, in
Transylvania, where there is an excellent salt lake; and many other places.
2. One of these rest homes is located on the main street, close to a pharmacy,
in Calimanesti, on the Olt River, and 'directly south of the Carpathian
Mountains. It is near the town of Rmanicul Valcea. The 20-roam house is
one of the former tourist hotels and is equipped with double bedrooms,
dining roan, kitchen, lecture room, library, etc.
3. Members of the Militia and the Security Police (Securitate) often attend
joint pleasure excursions to the rest homes, as well as political
conferences and cultural meetings. The speakers at these meetings are
MAI members who are either on vacatign themselves or who are assigned to
special speaking tours. In May 195h, the lecturer was Col Stelian Tatu,
President of the Central Council of the Dinamo Athletic Association, of
the MAI.
