KEY no REVERE.) 1, In order to be permitted to leave Bucharest and travel to one of the frontier sones, a R snar.an oitisen must obtain a travel permit from his Raion Militia Ccsmnander. The form requesting approval for travel to border areas contain the following information: a. Comrade Commander: The undersigned living at _ employed at ____ which is located'aa- , requests approval for travel to in Regiun? or a following reasons: 1. (Let Us Fight For Peace) (signature) Addressed to: Raion Militia Carmander Raion b, The application is made according to a typewritten formula, posted in each Militia Raion Office. The application is made on plain white paper and is not stamped. Two photographs must accompany the application. There is usually a lapse of 15 to 20 days while awaiting the results of the corres- pondence between the Bucharest militia office and the provincial office. If approval is granted, a stamp is affixed to the "population bulletin" (buletinul). Upon reaching his destination, the traveler must go to the SECRZT/tT. S. In case the travel is of ar official nature, a duplicate form must be made and both the original and duplicate are signed by the respective official. 2. In traveling to Turnu Severin, the train route usually passes through Pitesti. The railroad station is located on the right, as the train enters the station. Many persons board the train in Pitesti. The next principal stop is Piatra-Olt. The train route passes through Slatina, a small station on the right, and then arrives in Craiova, a principal city in the regiune. Railroad personnel and a militia post may be seen in the Craiova station, As a rule there are no identification proceedings and travelers may board or leave the train without difficulty. Travelers may leave freely through the main gate of the station by showing only their railroad ticket stubbs. The next stop on the route is Filias, which is a town of no particular significance. The next stop is Strehaia, which is the place where the train check usually starts, especially for those who hold tickets for Balota, Simian, Turnu Severin, Orsova, and Baia Herculane. The officials. conducting the inspection require that the'"population booklet" (bu]s tinul de populatie) and the train ticket be shown... Persons traveling to one of the border zones are required to show their travel permit as well. All military personnel, whether officers or enlisted men, pass inspection easily without being requested to identify themselves. All train checks are made by uniformed militia men, accompanied by the regular train personnel, 3. All raion centers in Bucharest have a rectangular glass plate outside the door which is lighted at night and which bens the following in black letters: Ministry of Internal Affairs Militia Raion There is a militia man posted outside the entrance to the militia raion headquarters. He asks all visitors the nature of their call. Visitors who are there to receive a permit or to go to the "oontrolul strainilor" (visitors' control office), are immediately allowed to pass.
