Groups for Assistance to Border Guards. These groups were usually composed of 15-20 persons, with both Communists and persons without Party: affiliation participating. These groups were trained in the use of weapons by Border Guards. A group was formed in MalikPreslavets in May 1954. .b. Fight Groups. These groups were formed by the militia. They were usually composed of 15 persons, consisting entirely of members of the Communist Party. The groups were trained by a militia officer, and their purpose was to help the militia when necessary. the Groups for Assistance to Border Guards were formed and out of the. border zone. only in the first border zone, while the Fight Groups were organized both in Bulgarian-Rumanian Border Zone there was no second border zone on theBByulgarian 25X1 Rmianian border. Border Guard permanent check points were estaYblished in every Danube port except Ruse. These. soldiers 'checked the documents of every traveller on a Danube river ship. Around 1 a.m. every day, this train passed over the new Danube bridge. If a person wished to visit a village located out of the first border zone, it was still necessary for him to have an "Otkrit List." If he wished'to go to a village without an "Otkrit List," it was necessary for him to travel by state bus. Sofia-"lo.scow Exprese Train after May 1954, when the Ruse-Giurgiu bridge had been completed, a new Sofia-Moscow express train was put into operation. The Mlitarv Ships on the Danube 5. many military ships, flying Rmanian flags, near the xumaraan-ianubesacte. The ships were well camouflaged with willow-tree branches. there were approximately 100 such military ships, and claimed 'that they were located from Silistra to Ruse. Where the Rumanian side was comparatively steep, such ships could be observed every 200-300 or 500 meters. At other places, the ships were spaced at a distance of about 1-2 kilometers. ATZ "Stalin" 6. the ATZ "Stalin" in Dimitrovgrad presently produced some 25X1 25X1 explosive materials.'
