An acute shortage of some of the psnioilli ; preparations in use has been felt recently. Physicians and hospitals have been advised to proscribe the drug more sparingly than hitherto, 2. Streptomycin, aureomycin, and terramycin may be issued only after permission has been granted by a chief physician of a hospital. Such permission is granted in most cases only after the blood or sputum of the patient has been tested for reaction to the antibiotic concerned. 3.
