1. The Prefabrication Institute (Ustav prefabrikace), the experimental institute for
prefabricated concrete units, under the Ministry of Construction, receives assign-
ments for producing prototypes and for the planning of production in series of
various prefabricated concrete units for domestic, industrial* and military con-
struction. The requirements of domestic building companies, industrial enterprises,
and the armed forces for expanding their present installations and carrying out
new building projects are channeled through a liaison department of the Ministry
of Construction t.0 the institute. The latter plans the most rationalised and
economical method for carrying out the proieot,using the maximum number of standard
prefabricated units.
2. The offices of the Prefabrication Institute are located at V. Jame 7, Prague II.
The institute, headed by a director and an assistant, comprises a planning depart-
ment, a department for research and drafts, an accounts department, and archives.
There is a staff of approximately 30 persons, consisting of about 15 civil and
construction engineers, five architects, a chief accountant, clerks, typists, and
a reception cleric who is also the telephone operator. He is a loyal Communist in
charge of Party matters at the institute.
3. The institute operates a number of small experimental workshops, of which some are
in minor factories producing building materials and others are attached to the 15
industrial enterprises engaged in large-aosleiproduotion of prefabricated concrete

of the Ministry are submitted to the latter which,, after approval of the plans,
assigns the production of the prefabricated units to one or more of the 15
factories. he factories work in close cooperation with the institute; experts
from the institute frequently visit the factories, supervising and advising them
on the production of the units planned by the institute.

was probably the same for 1954.
