1. The Bulgarian' ground forces are divided into three armies (Armiya), which
together comprise a total of 12 divisions.
a. The Western (Zapadna) Army, also called 1 Army, has its headquarters at
Sofia and consists of the 1 Division at Sofia, the 7 Division at
Stank* Dimitrov (formerly Dupnitea), the 8 Division at Vratsa, and
probably the 6 Division whose location is unknown; 25X1
b. The Southern Army, also called the 2 Army, has its headquarters at
Plovdiv and consists of the 2 Division at Plovdiv, the 3 Division at
Yambol, the 10 Division at Khaekovo, and the 11 ("New") Division at Burgas;
and
c. The Northern Army, also called the 3 Army, has its headquarters at either
Kolarovgrad (formerly Shumen), or Sliven and consists of the 4 Division at
Kolarovgrad, the 5 Division at Ruse, the 9 Division at Pleven, and the
12 ("New") Division at Tolbulchin (formerly Dobrich).
2. Each of the 12 divisions consists of three infantry, cavalry, or artillery
brigades, located as follows
a. 1 Division, with brigades at Sofia, Breznik, and Slivnitea;
be 2 Division, with brigades at Plovdiv, Chirpan, and Pazardzhik;
c. 3 Division, with brigades at Yambol, Nova Zagora, and Sliven;
d. 4 Division, with brigades at Kolarovgrad, T mgoviehte, and a third
unknown location;
e. 5 Division, with brigades at Ruse, Gorna Oryakhovitsa, Silistra, and a
cavalry brigade at Razgrad;

f. 6 Division; no details are known;
g. 7 Division, with brigades at Stanke Dimitrov, Blagoevgrad, and Kyustendil;
h. 8 Division, with brigades at Vratsa, Vidin, and a third unknown location;
i. 9 Division, with brigades at Pleven, Lovech, and Svishtov;
J, 10 Division, with brigades at Khaskovo, Kharmanli, and Kurdzhali;
k. 11 Division, with brigades at Burgas, Elkhovo, and a third unknown location;
1. 12 Division, with an infantry brigade at Balchik and artillery and cavalry
brigades at Tolbukhin.
3. As far as is known, there are five tank brigades in the Bulgarian Army; two
of them are located in the Sofia area near Durvenitsa and Sukhodol villages.
The remaining three are located at Plovdiv, Sliven and Kazanlilk.
4. Specialized schools for officers are known to exist at the following locations:
a. Infantry and artillery at Sofia;
b. Infantry, artillery, and medical corps at Turnovo;
c. Engineers and signal corps at Svvishtov;
d. Signal corps and adjutants' col=se at Ruse;
e. Air Force at Tolbukhin and Telish; and
f. Armored Corps at Kazanls.
5. Schools for noncommissioned officers are known to exist at the following
locationsv
a. Infantry at Xnyezhevo and Gorna Banya in the Sofia area;
b. Artillery at Samokov;
c. Infantry and artillery at Pleven;
d. Infantry at Plovdiv and Kolarcvgrad;
e. Air Force at Bozhur^iahte; and
f. Armored Corps at Kazanluk and Sliven.
