A former German auxiliary airfield with grass cover located near Markswalde in the Oderbruch was allegedly to be improved. The field had been surveyed in the late fall of 1954. b. An old German airfield near Calau, west of Cottbus was to be used as an auxiliary airfield. The installation had a grass cover. It had recently been surveyed. c. A former German auxiliary airfield near Alteno which had recently been surveyed was planned to be reconditioned and used as an emergency airfield. The landing field was covered with ;rass. Additional airfield construction projects were to be discussed by late 1954. It was not yet determined whether new airfields were to be established or if old installations were to be enlarged. 1 2. According to available information, expansion work at Alt Loennewitz airfield will probably start in early January 1955. The project was called Falkenberg construction site by the Bauunion Sued. Frau Hellmann (fnu), business manager of the Rothenburg staff, stated that she was to be detached to Falkenberg probably on the first days of January 1955. The construction site in Rothenburg was to be vacated at the end of 1954. 3 5. During a conference at the Bauunion Sued on 22 November mention was made of a new airfield near Frankenberg where work was to be started at an undetermined date in 1955. The location of Frankenberg was described as "south of Hartha along the autobahn." It was unknown whether the airfield will be located near the Autobahn or whether the descriptive remark was only a geographic help. 4 6. On 22 and 23 November, a conference was held by the Bauunion Sued and mention was made that the previously planned concreting of runways covered with runway mats was postponed for financial reasons until the summer of 1955? Neuhardenberg, 54 km east-northeast of Berlin and 2 km north of Neuhar#enberg. b. Calau-Bronko, 9 km south of Calau. c. Luckau-Alteno, 43 km west-northwest of Cottbus, 5 km east- northeast of Luckau. was planned to be constructed in Luc au- teno.l Comment. The "tactical directives for airfield construction projects" are reported for the first time. late 1954 has previously been reported Comment. It is probable that the runway at Alt Loennewitz airfield will be provided with a new concrete cover and that a taxiway will be constructed. The information on training activity in Alt Loennewitz (retraining of ground attack pilots on MiG-15s) is noteworthy. Improvement work at Alt Loe w tz airfield was previously reported.
