Tsingtao
seven pillboxes were along the shore of Tsingtao Harbor.
The pillboxes were built of stone and were placed about 1,000 yards apart in
a straight line. No guns were protruding from the pillboxes, and no soldiers
were seen in the area.
the HO P'ING 7 and a 3,000-ton Soviet merchant vessel were
docked in Tsingtao. The Soviet vessel was painted black and had four cargo
compartments.
two Chinese Communist naval vessels entered Tsingtao Harbor.
c snip naa one main gun on the bow, one gun on the stern, and four machine
guns. One ship was old, about 200 feet in length, and painted dark grey.
The second ship,of about 1,200 tons,was trailing the first ship at slow speed.
The second ship had an oval-shaped radar on the top of the mast. Many sailors
were lined up on deck.
Tientsin
the SS PAKHOI, the SS YOCHOW, and the 1,000-ton TZU YU (5261/3945) 25X1
3, painted gray, were docked at Pier 2. Three small shipyards were located
opposite Pier 2; two of the shipyards were repairing small boats.
five metal frames were visible on. two small hills at a point
opposite the breakwater in Taku Bar. They appeared to be a radio station.
Many pillboxes were built on the surrounding hills. One large stone building
and several small buildings were built to the right of the two small hills.
Several soldiers were in front of the buildings.

~ight oil tanks were under construction about a 30-minute
sailing distance upstream from Taku. The construction of a pier nearby had
been stopped.

the Chinese Communist dredger HO HSI (3109/6007) sank at sea
between Tientsin and Shanghai. The crew of 31 persons were rescued and
taken to Tientsin by another ship. The dredger had been built in Japan about
40 years ago.

Shanghai
10. The following vessels were in Shanghai 25X1
a. One 500-to 600-ton naval vessel anchored outside Woosung.
b. Three landing craft anchored near the Chiu Chiang (0046/3068) pier in
Yangtzepoo. The old warehouse at the Chiu Chiang pier has been con-
verted to a military billet.
c. CHIEN SHE 2 and CHIEN SHE 5 at the Asiatic Petroleum Company pier. Both
vessels were painted green.
d. Three LST's, the I MENG SHAN (3085/5536/1472); radar a uipped; the T'AI HSING
SHAN (1132/5887/1472); and the TA PIEH SHAN (1129/0446/1472) in the river.
e. One old naval vessel on the opposite side of the'river from the Shanghai
power plant. The guns on deck were covered, and the ship was undergoing
repairs.
f. Five 100-ton speedboats next to the old naval vessel. The vessels appeared
to be newly constructed, and each had a gun on the stern. A shipyard was
located nearby.
g. Two 1,000-ton ships, the HSIN K'ANG (2450/1660) and the K'ANG CHIANG
(1660/3068), sailing outbound near the Chiu Chiang pier.
h. SS YUN'NAN docked at the Huangpu (7806/3184) pier, near Dairen Road.
near the former China Steamship Company pier on the Pootung side of the river.
The ship was about 400 feet in length and from 3,000 to 4,000 tons.
