(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY INFORMATION REPORT S-E-C-R-E-T NOFORN a RD The Makyta Garment Factory (0devne zavody) in Puchov (N 149-08, E 18-20) is a nationalized enterprise for the manufacture of uniforms. It was set up in 1950 in the buildings of an establishment which formerly pro- 25X1 ceased wood pulp for the textile industry. The buildings were oompletely remodeled and machinery was replaced by machine tools of Czech and German manufacture, The manufacturing process is automatic. In 1953, six Soviet steam pressing irons were installed. 2. The factory is located on the northwest edge of Puchov, north of the highway to Horni Lidec (N 149-11, E 18-014). It consists of a four-story structure measuring 100 x 60 meters, with warehouses for finished products and raw materials on the ground floor., and workrooms of various dimensions on the floors above. The management is in a detached building behind the main factory structure. 3. The factory employs 30 to 35 employees in administration., approximately 140 4. technicians and cutters., and 250 women workers. In March 19514, the working hours were increased from 10 to 19 ugh "voluntary" acceptance. The director is Viktor Ulicn3y the former chief tailor; the 25X1 vice director is Maria Wchterle (sic , a Communist; the ei ioyee in charge of political cadres is Eng. Milos Vanek. There is no permanent military commission in the factory; approximately once a month a military board from Trencin (N 48-53, E 18-03) accepts the products, and they are shipped by rail. Shipments occur twice a month. Generally speaking, the uniforms are sent to the quartermaster depots in Bratislava, Trencin, Mistek (N 49-40, E 18-20),and the aviation quartermaster depot in Bratislava- Ivanka. 5. Cloth and accessory materials reach the factory by rail. Two or three trains arrive weekly at Puchov station with supplies for the factory. Sixty percent of the textiles for uniforms, chiefly coarse cloth, are supplied by textile mills in Zilina. Mills in Trencin and Kysucke Novo Mesto (N 49-18, E 18-47) also supply cloth. 6. In October 19539 production was suspended, and from that month until the beginning of 1954 the factory worked only for the Soviet armed forces. During that period, with two shifts daily, 25,000 blouses were manufactured for Soviet aviators; the cloth was supplied by the USSR. During this special period of manufacture, the work was watched by two Soviet officers who were placed in the factory.
