REMARKS
PLACE OBTAINED
31 January 1955
1. On 12 November and 7 December 1954, soldiers wearing black-bordered 25X1
blue epaulets were observed at Sohoenwalde airfield. There was no
air activity. The radio installation of 4 masts, each about 18 motors
high, was observed at the previous location. A small green wooden
house and an earthbunker were again seen nearby. Some soldiers 25X1
wearing red-bordered black epaulets were observed there on 12
November. The electric current consumption in the air force quarters
was not paid separately by an air force unit, but 90 percent of the
consumption were paid by an AA unit with auditor Tyilenev (fnu) and
10 percent by a rocket launcher unit with auditor Chesnakov.
2. During the period from 9 to 17 December 1954, air activity was
observed on the following days:
10 December. Between 0800 and 1300, a Po-2 made local flights of
about 20 minutes duration.
13 December. Between 1200 and 1400, 3 Po-2s practiced local L1 sr
flying in formation. The aircraft had a black number in a white
circle on the middle of the rudder assembly. The Nos 1,2 and 3 were
observed. A red star was observed over the white circle and, in a
slightly smaller shape, under the wings and on both sides of the
fuselage.
16 December. Between 1000 and 1200, individual local flights were
made by 2 Po-2s. During day flights, a red flag was observed on the
control tower. The obstacle lights were repeatedly switched on also
at times when no air activity was conducted.
18 to 30 December. No air activity was observed. After nightfall,
the hangars were mostly lighted and the obstacle lights were
switched on.

3. On 3 and 4 January, no air activity was observed at Schoenwalde
airfield. Four 6-meter-high wooden poles were arranged in a square
about 300 meters northeast of the target range. The poles were
braced by guy wires attached at the mastheads. In the middle of
the square of masts there was an earth bunker which was occupied
by soldiers whose service color. could not be observed.
Comment. The occupation of Schoenwalde airfield has not
changed. The army units mentioned in the present report were
reported previously. It has t yet been determined from which
airfield the Po-2s had come.
The
radio installation of four masts has repea dl been re orted.
For sketch of radio installation furnished see Annex.
