A manganese-ore mine was located at the edge of a woods west of Epl4ny (P 48/D 69), about 13 km.north of Veszpreip (P 48/D 78). The mine was subordinate to the Directorate of Ore Mines of the Ministry for Heavy Industries. During the reported period, the mine was beihg$` enlarged; Va:Vbh bAshaf was )eing sunk and continuous investigations were made rpr" on the locatio Hr(Are deposits. The mine was connected with the Veszpre ?-Gyoer railroa line by a spur track. Electricity was supplied by a long- distance power line. 2. Machinery available at the mine included 1 hoiwting winch, 1 saw for the production of pit props, 1 compressor, and 30 pneumatic hammers. 3. The 1954 production quota was 36,000 tons. The mont'}.ly production quota had been over-fulfilled in June. The ore had an estimated manganese content of 27 to 29 percent. The ore was shipped to Ozd for s.wlsmelting. 4. Chief of the mine was Ferene Kisbajcs , a former laborer, who was about 45 years old; chief engineer was Matyas Labudek formerly mine inspector, a Communist, who was an expert. 5. The mine employed a total of about 120 persons, including about 10 percent females. Work was done in three shifts. The mine provided two sets of work clothing each year.
