REMARKS
1. The following air activity and aircraft were observed at Finow airfield
between 17 December 1954 and 10 January 1955= 25X1
17 December. Night flights were made between 1930 and 2100 by MiG-15a or
U-MiG-15a which made local flights of about 5 minutes duration. Up to 2
aircraft were simultaneously aloft. During the air activity, a searchlkl
near the Finow estate about 100 meters north of the radar station was in
opet&tion.
18 December. Night flying was again practiced as on 17 December. Another
searchlight was located about 100 meters east of the Finow-Biesenthal road
in the flying lane. This searchlight gave equal flash signals perpendicularly
upw4rd. The individual aircraft took off at intervals of about 5 minutes.
19 and 21 December. No air activity was observed from the direction of
Eberswalde.
27 December. Between 1400 and 1530, 3 take-offs and landings were made byi
a MiG-15 or U-MiG-15 which made local flights of about 5 minutes duration. No
additional air activity was observed.
28 December. No air activity was observed.
29 December. Local night flights of 5 to 8 minutes duration were made by
MiG-15s or U-MiG-15s between 1845 and 2130. The aircraft had set position
lights. During the air activity, the searchlight near the Finow estate was
in operation. The other search in the flying lane was not observed.
Up to 3 aircraft were ald6t at the same time.
30 December and 3, 5,through 10 January. No air activity was observed.
Four swept-back jet fighters were regularly observed on the dispersal area
of the alert aircraft.
2. On 6 January, the model AA 4 MK 3 set and the Fishnet-type tadar set were 25X1
still observed. A mast about 10 meters high was located near the temporary
building at the gap in the fence next to the flying lane. Two umbrella-type
antennas were seen on the barn of Finow estate. A Token-type radar set which
was guarded by a sentry armed with a carbine was seen in the radar station
near the Finow estate. About 200 meters northeast of the set was a radio
installation of 4 masts. 2

3. The AA gun emplacement southeast of the eastern end of the main runway
was still occupied by 6 x 37-mm AA guns.
4. Many new soldiers were seen in Finow after late November 1954. 3
5. Sentries observed at the installation included 1 armed with a carbine and
posted at the main guard, 1 armed with submachine gun and posted north of the
main guard, and 1 armed with a carbine and posted at the gap in the fence
along the Finow-Biesenthal road. All of the sentries wore padded jackets.

7. A Token-type radar set was located on a hill about 400 meters north of the
road to Freienwalde and north of the western entrance of Sommerfelde. On
12 January, a group of 10 air force soldiers were seen marching toward E
Eberswalde, coming from the direction of Sommerfelde. 2
Comment. Finow airfield is still occupied by a fighter division"
headquarters and two fighter regiments. Only local flights at night were
observed. Searchlights which flash identification signals were repeatedly
reported from airfields of the Twenty-Fourth Air Army.

Comment. An exchange of personnel during the fall of 1954 was observed 25X1
at almost all airfields of the Twenty-Fourth Air Army.
