1. Test drillings began in the forest around Mnisek pod Brdy in the middle of 1952
Several mining towers were erected and work went on day and night. Apart from
normal miners, some 150 prisoners were put to work here. The materials mined
were put into canvas bags and sent to Jachymov.
2. From all this, the local population assumed that uranium deposits had been found
here. This activity, however, seemed to have completely stopped in the summer
of 1953.
3. Instead, considerable deposits of iron ore were dis- 50X1-HUM
covered in this area in 1953 an that exploitiation began immediately.
4+. The deposits are in the vicinity of the highway. to Prague and are said to be
very substantial. This is evidenced by the fact that 15 tenement houses were
built there in 1953 for employees of the mine. Opposite these houses, on the
westside of the road to Prague, there now is a large mining tower. 50X1-HUM'
