Approved For Release 2008/06/04: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA006300610004-4 Austria COUNTRY. TOPIC 1. Soviet Motor Vehicle ftipawt nerved in Brack/Leitha 2. Exchange of Air Force Officers at Parndorf Airfield EVALUATION DATE OF C DATE OBTAINED REFERENCES PAGES 1 ENCLOSURES (NO. & TYPE), REMARKS L_DATE PREPARED by another regiment. 8 March 1955 1. Between 21 and 26 January and on 28 and 31 January 1955, no Soviet troop 25X1 shipments were seen passing through Bruck/Leitha. At about 0900 on 27 January, a shipment of 28 new 1.5-ton trucks was observed in Bruck/Leitha coming from Hsgyeshalom (47055IN/17010IE) and proceeding toward Brunn-Maria- -Enzersdorf (48006'N/16o17'E). 1 2. On 30 January, groups of 4 to 6 young Soviet Air Force officers ranking from lieutenant to captain took photographs of monuments and other famos structures in Bruck/Leitha. The officers were seen in Bruck for the first time. Of the officers previously seen at Parndorf airfield only one was still observed in the town. The new air force officers who were quartered in the so-called "Winterschule", presumably the former agricultural school, had apparently arrived without (heir families. The Soviets formerly quartered in building No 6 Kiraly Strasse, Bruckneudorf, had recently moved into the Winterschule. 2 Comment. Presumably a regular supply shipment of tracks. 25X1 25X1 Comment. The information indicates that a large-scale exchange of personnel took place in the Soviet fighter regiment at Parndorf airfield in January 1955. It is known, however, that Soviet personnel are generally exchanged during the fall season. The air activity observed in Parndorf during the last three months of 1954 and in January 1955 indicate that new personnel arrived in Parndorf during the fall of 1954. Therefore, it is unknown why young officers were observed only on 30 January 1955 and t old officers were mi ing on that date ILLEGIB o other observations have been made which might ILLEGIB indicate a transfer of the old regiment from Parndorf and a reoccupation (t ASSIFI1 ATIC}N SECRET Approved For Release 2008/06/04: CIA-RDP80-0081 OA006300610004-4
