it is handled by the firm Hamburger Transport Kontor. The owner of
this firm 1s w. Ertel. The Berlin representative for DSU export
shipments is the firm Schiller and Koch.
2. Cargo shipped by the DSU over the Elbe to Magdeburg-Hamburg for
the month of January 1955 was approximate1 130,000 tons. The ma or

The DSU handles the majority of its imports through Szczecin
(Stettin), Poland, and the Oder inland iaterway. There are exceptions
to this procedure in the case of East German exports to the USSR.
Export shipments to the USSR have all been handled through Szczecin
in the past. Thin procedure may vary in the future if the USSR releases
its hold on certain port facilities in Szczecin. Rumors in DSU circles
indicate that the USSR may turn over the entire upper Szczecin port
to the toles
4, The Oder is frozen to a depth of two meters and there are no indica-
tions that any large traffic shipments can be expected during.
February 1955? On 3 February 1955 one tug and four barges arrived
in Berlin with a cargo of coal from Zehdeniok. The DSU doubts that
it can keep the route from Zehdenioh to Berlin open.
