At 0700 hours on 25 September 1954, three naval vessels were seen on a northerly course about two nautical miles south of Orlov Point (N 67-13, E 41-18 in the White Sea Strait. The vessels sailed a line formation All were similar except 25X1 had extra equipment on the mast. Each vessel had one gun 25X1 behinu a splinter shield on the foredeck, a bridge, a 20-millimeter gun on a platform-on each side of the bridge, one stack, a break from the forecastle to the boat deck next to the stack, a mast with equip- ment, lifeboats, a break down to the afterdeck, and a gun behind a. shield on the afterdeck (see sketch No. 1). 2. Vessel d a milk-white cylindrical cupola with a slightly convex 25X1 top an o om on the top of the mast. From ^ small flat place just un- derneath the cupola, four arr_.s bent out and up toward it. On the end of each arm there was a sphere, which was practically as high as the middle of the cupola. The both the crosswise and lengthwise di-T-3 rections. Vessels ad a similar grayish cupola on the 25X1 mast, but it was not provide with arms and spheres. 3. On 26 September, naval vessel tied up alongside the dock at Solom- 25X1 bala. At 1730 hours on 8 October, the same vessel passed by Sawmill No. 25 on the way out. It had one gun behind a splinter shield on the fore- deck, a bridge, a two-armed mast on the bridge, and an object covered with a tarpaulin on a small rig about halfway up the mast. It also had one stack, two lifeboats on each side, a sturdy crane on a base aft of the boatdeck. From the base there were two arched supports, one to each side of the vessel. The crane arm leaned aft. It was slightly arched end had a four-sheaved iron block with cable wires. There was a crane on the stern-frame also (eee sketch To. 2). In the vicinity of the Solombala docks there were four, possible six, boats visible under construction on shore. They were 18 to 20 feet long, and had brown painted iron hulls, deckhouses, raised sterns, and two cy- lindrical shields, one on each side under the stern. The propellers were not mounted (see sketch to. 5). About two meters out from the quay, the depth Was 30 to 3 eet.
